Explaindio 4.0 Review | A Must-Read Review about Explaindio

0 110

According to the developers of Explaindio, it is one of the most flexible and affordable software in the market. After all, that is a claim made by themselves on behalf of the software they developed. So, the claim they made can or cannot be true. Anyway, Explaindio comes with a substantially large toolbox. It comprises of various tools to make animations and explainer videos either in cartoon or whiteboard style.

In general, Explaindio is developed targeting those who are involved in internet marketing. In fact, we believe it is a justifiable categorization. If you need such software for an educational or similar purpose, we suggest software like VideoScribe. Nevertheless, this whiteboard animation tool is expensive compared to Explaindio. As a whole, Explaindio comes with a complex interface, and you will have to spend some time in learning it. Nevertheless, there are some significant positive features are integrated into this software, so we thought of reviewing it.

PS: Here are some professional reviews about the related software for your reference: Doodly Reviews, VideoMakerFX Review, as well as the Easy Sketch Pro Review.

What we appreciate about it

In this section of the Explaindio review, we will explain what we really like about it.

  • It comprises a library of animation templates for your convenience
  • The timeline it has comes with a flexible and precise controlling option
  • You can import files into Explaindio be they are fonts or 3D elements you have already created
  • Cloud storage

Reasons to trust this review

Now, let us explain why do you need to trust this review about Explaindio. We are a team of techies who have done plenty of experiments using various software utilities. We know many individuals are really concerned about the budget when purchasing software tools. So, we thought of sharing the experiences we had using some of the most well-known software for different purposes.

When it comes to Explaindio, we have tested it, and we possess the hands-on experience related to that. Our team was able to explore pretty much all the features associated with this tool under different circumstances. We even contacted the customer care service through email and read their reply. Also, we should mention that we don’t intend to do biased reviews on any software. Our intention is to share the genuine experience we had with certain software tools.

Introduction to Explaindio

Now, we will explain what Explaindio actually is. As we mentioned before, this tool is particularly introduced for those who are engaged in internet marketing. However, that shouldn’t prevent others from using this tool. This respective tool lets you create elements in various styles ranging from whiteboard to 3D images. It also has various other presets as well. Explaindio has an interface that works on drag-and-drop principle. The latest version of this software comes under version 4.0 (Explaindio 4.0).

Key features of Explaindio

Here are the most notable features associated with Explaindio.

  • Creating explainer videos using professional sketches (in the form of Whiteboard hand drawing).
  • Create explainer videos by combining whiteboard sketches and HD videos.
  • Make absolutely professional ‘commercial-style’ videos using full HD videos in the background (and overlay graphical and textual elements).
  • Import HD video clips conveniently and use audio clips without necessarily using a third-party tool.
  • Resizing and moving the animated elements and combining them into your video.
  • Importing slides through VideoMakerFX.
  • A large library of animation templates that are designed professionally.
  • A good collection of royalty free background music tracks.
  • You can download plenty of additional templates (at a cost, of course) through their “Video Template Marketplace”. It also allows importing templates music etc. from other video making tools as well.
  • Importing videos of all kinds such as AVI, WMV, MOV, MP4, etc.
  • Working with multiple animations at the same time
  • Editing videos with multi-timeline
  • Customization of 3D models and animations
  • Built-in beautiful transitions
  • Doodle object animations that are presets

What’s New on Explaindio 4.0?

We are aware of the previous versions of Explaindio as well (although we didn’t try them). However, we did some research and tried to explore the new features that are included in version 4. The most notable improvement related to Explaindio 4.0 is cloud integration (which wasn’t available with 3.0 and older). Explaindio 4.0 operates as a desktop app on Mac and Windows just like the previous versions. But cloud integration makes the difference.

As we believe, this is a very good integration in terms of the efficiency of the app. That means, you can simply use the benefits of the cloud storage together with the power of a desktop app. Having your assets stored in cloud storage is a very convenient move. Such approach lets you access your files regardless of your location. Also, the risks of data loss due to mechanical errors is eliminated if you use cloud storage.

When it comes to the video assets in the library, both Explaindio 3.0 and 4.0 have the same properties.

Can you get Explaindio for free?

Well, the truth is that Explaindio is not for free. It doesn’t provide even a trial version. So, you have to buy it or look for another option. There’s no ‘trying’ with this software. They offer three options when it comes to subscribing the software.

  • Monthly subscription plan: $37 (Original price is $57)
  • Annual subscription plan: $67 (Original price is $147)
  • One-time subscription: $497 (Original price is $697)

Although monthly subscriptions weren’t available with earlier versions, Explaindio 4.0 offers all those flexible pricing options now. Well, compared to the other similar-type tools in the market, Explaindio is affordable.

How to download Explaindio?

Explaindio doesn’t let you download the software until you subscribe to it. That means you cannot download it until you pay. After selecting the price plan and paying it, you will get all the required information through email. You can visit the member portal through the link included in this email. Then, you will be able to log in to that using the credentials accordingly. After logging in to the portal, you will be able to download the program and get it installed. Because of this process, no one can download this software until he or she purchases it.

You will be able to find the software under the section labeled “Active Resources”. Then you can scroll down the screen to locate the download button. You will see that the zip files are being downloaded. And you should unzip these files to your computer and open PKG files. The installation will begin immediately. Compared to other software installation processes, installing Explaindio is different.

At the completion of the installation, you will be able to see the program on the applications folder. The installation process we have mentioned above is related to Mac computers.

Here’s what we have experienced after the installation process.

When you need to launch Explaindio after installation, you can do it through the applications folder. After opening the software, on the login screen, it required us to enter the license key. This key was sent to users through the email we got during the setup process.

After entering the license key, we were able to see the main editing screen. The interface was a decent one, and we don’t have any complaints about it.

Is Explaindio safe to use?

In simplest terms, you can use Explaindio without any hesitation as it is a safe software. They are in the market for over five years. Already, they have gained a substantially large customer base as well. We scanned the program using a very powerful antivirus and a web guard as well. Thankfully, the scan didn’t find any dangerous programs associated with Explaindio.

VideoScribe Vs. Explaindio

When you compare VideoScribe with Explaindio, you should have a clear intention of the purpose of using them. That means, depending on the purpose, the usefulness of the software might differ. It is true that Explaindio comes with powerful 3D support and VideoScribe doesn’t have such option with it. However, you cannot tell Explaindio is more flexible than VideoScribe or vice versa.

If you are an internet marketer, however, Explaindio may be a good option to go. If your client demands really complex animations, we believe that Explaindio might be a really nice tool. However, if you need a whiteboard animation with less complexity, we suggest using VideoScribe. Also, the time you require to learn the program is very less if you use VideoScribe.

User-experience with Explaindio 4.0

To be frank, it took a couple of days to figure out how to use Explaindio 4.0. We went through a range of tutorials and did some experiments as well to get a better hands-on experience. From this point onwards, we will explain what we have encountered with this software. Please note that what you experience might slightly differ if you use a Windows PC instead of a Mac.

The user interface

After opening Explaindio, you will see an exceptionally nice interface. In fact, we consider its interface as one of the best we have ever come across. There are about twenty buttons located in the menu bar to represent various functions of the software. Below that, you will see the timeline of this software. With the assistance of this timeline, you will be able to modify or add media and scenes. Also, at the bottom of the screen, you will see that there is an editing panel. The area you are working will differ depending on the project you are working on.

To start manipulating what you have included within the project, you will have to click on “Create Project”. This option is located towards the top left of the interface.

You will see an icon representing a film strip (and a plus in the middle). Click on this option in order to add a scene to the project. After clicking on this button, you can either create a new scene or even add a clip from personal library.

When it comes to the bottom half of the editor, you can see various buttons to add different media. You can select the option ‘close canvas’ if you need to go back to the main window. You will be able to exit the drag-and-drop interface as well.

The options you are using from this point onwards might differ depending on the type of the media. Towards the left side of the window, you will be able to see the “Image” tab. Through this option, you will be able to adjust some of the features associated with animations. In order to edit the other elements, you can take a look at the timeline and see the available options. Through these options, you will be able to edit the aspects included in the entire scene as well.

The aforementioned timeline comes with highly versatile features. These features are really worth it considering the price range. You can use it to rearrange the media, create gaps within the scene, and perform overlaps in animations as well.

When the items are included in the timeline, you will see a different bar for each item. The gray color bar will show how long the respective media is animated. You can easily drag it after it appears on the screen. Each of the media items you include in this will appear in a vertical manner. Nevertheless, the gray bars show the order of the animations.

Media usage

When you use Explaindio, you will see that it supports various formats for different users. These media include text, background music, visualizations, and even voiceovers. In other words, it helps you manage everything you need to create your program. Let’s see how each of those aspects is used within the program.

Visuals

Visual media comes in various formats as you may already know. One of the most basic forms is SVG sketch files particularly when it comes to whiteboard animations. To facilitate this, Explaindio comes with a really decent library.

If you click on one, you can see that it adds into your canvas. It also has some pre-made animations as well. If not, you can select a bitmap or any other non-vector image to have in the project. PNGs and JPEGs are the examples for bitmap images you would come across.

You can consider inserting these images from sources like your computer or even through Pixabay directly. That is because of the perfect integration of Pixabay with Explaindio. We tried a couple of elements through this method, and we are really pleased with the results. Compared to the other whiteboard animators, Explaindio works fine in this case.

During the process of importing, we found it to be slightly confusing. That is because the image didn’t appear completely on the upload screen. However, the result was amazing.

The bitmaps we imported were converted into a beautiful whiteboard drawing. When it comes to importing GIF, the process was not that satisfactory. It is true that the GIF appeared just like a drawing, but the animation gave us some imperfections. The image necessarily stood still.

Importing audio (MP4 file) went pretty smoothly. When it comes to the actual animation, the audio was perfectly included in the test scene we have created.

As the next step, we tried the feature called “Animation/Slide”. When we clicked on the option, we were directed to import an Explaindio slide itself. It also let us import a flash file as well. We had a couple of flash animations in our Mac, and as a result, we saw perfect results. And we also tried the other option, and we were directed to the library of Explaindio.

We found that it comprises of a large number of pre-made slides. All of those items were very nice. Nevertheless, it was hard for us to edit those slides. Also, we had no idea of using some text within the scene. We wanted to get some guidance from their customer care team. So, we dropped them an email asking how to solve this issue. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a prompt response (despite the automated email). They took more than five days to respond to the email we sent. Even though we got an email, there wasn’t any proper information on it. So, we consider their customer support as unsupportive.

We also tried their 3D file features in order to get an idea about its functionality. During the process of importing the files, we noticed a default library and unfortunately, there wasn’t a preview. Anyways, we added different 3D files into different slides. We also set the duration of each slide’s animation very short.

In a nutshell, some of the 3D files included in Explaindio library had no sense to us. Also, we noticed some strange file formats that we haven’t come across. We have dealt with various other 3D CAD programs and never seen some file extensions in Explaindio library. Also, some of the presents are of hardly of any use to us. So, we believe that their 3D files library needs some improvements.

Audios

Without audio, your animation is not complete. Audio files let you make your video a more specific, clearer finish. In fact, if you need to make your project a ‘multimedia’ one, there must be audio in it. Well, in this case, Explaindio offers plenty of support to add audio into your project. That means Explaindio makes it really easy for the user when it comes to sound insertion. Also, there are various tutorials you can easily find about it. A

However, if you intend to record the sounds within the program, you don’t get an opportunity to correct it. Instead, you will have to do it correctly from scratch till the end at once. If there’s any mistake, you will have to do it from the beginning. However, as we believe, it is wiser to use a third-party program to create the required audio files. Then, you can insert them into the project later on. For instance, you can use software like Audacity. It is a software dedicated to recording sounds.

We also should mention that we don’t really appreciate the preset songs in the backgrounds. The variation within these clips isn’t that great either. Such limitation will not be so good when it comes to making marketing videos. In this case, you will surely have to select the option “Get More Tracks”. This option lets you purchase the tracks through their library.

If you don’t like the option of purchasing a track, you may search for royalty-free clips on the internet. That is if you don’t want to create your own tracks using a third-party program mentioned before. So, just because the library has a limitation, it shouldn’t hinder your creativity.

Textual contents

When inserting text, you should know that it may not be that significant for your video. However, on the other hand, you should use text with charts, signs, statistics, etc. to make the message clearer. Well, in Explaindio, the text feature is versatile enough. For instance, you can change colors, font style, size, animation, etc. very easily without any hassle.

With all those options, you will be able to see a range of options to customize the fonts. However, some of the customization options have limitations compared to the others. For instance, you can see that there are limited color options in the palette provided.

The color palette is based on HEX codes. Because of this feature, you can make use of other tools to bring a personalized color into the font. For instance, you can use a HEX Color Picker to get a custom color code into the font.

When it comes to the font style, there are several default styles to select from. However, if you need more styles, this software offers you the opportunity of importing any TTF file. The animation part is convenient as well. The animation styles include simple movements of text to complex entry and exit styles. You can even use a hand-sketch entry and exit style to do this (as you may have done with PowerPoint).

One of the most significant drawbacks associated with Explaindio is that it doesn’t have alignments for text. After inserting the text, it will remain centered regardless of the length, and the number of lines included. Although this is a burden, managing it can be done with some amount of effort. You will be able to learn some skills of using text simply by referring to tutorials available on the internet.

Sharing the end result

After creating the video with editing and other effects, you can start exporting it. To do that, you will have only two options with Explaindio. You can either export the entire movie you have created or get a single scene exported. In order to export it, you can click on the option “create video” located at the menu bar. After clicking on this button, you will be able to see a dialog box with exporting.

There are several options to consider on this dialog box. Here’s how we proceeded with it. Firstly, we ignored the option called “Export Path and Filename”. We cannot edit it, but it gets automatically updated after exporting a file. When it comes to the size of the video, you will see that it has options up to Full HD (1080p). You can select the quality of the video within the ‘perfect’ and ‘good’ options. The speed of the process will substantially depend on the specification of the computer. Nevertheless, you should remember that there is a direct relationship between the quality and the amount of time it takes. That means, if you set the quality to the highest, the computer will take more time and vice versa.

If required, you can add a watermark to the end result simply by using a PNG. This PNG can be your logo or anything else. If you need to send someone a sample and protect your copyrights, this option would be fantastic.

There is another option called “Export Project for Online Presenter”. However, as per our experience, we couldn’t simply learn it quickly. We don’t see that it does anything when exporting the video. Anyways, after selecting the required settings, you should simply select the “Start Export” option. This option will lead you to find another dialog box.

You can use this option to change the project name as well. However, what’s more, important is that you should define the location to save the file. By default, you will be directed to a subfolder within the program itself (which is obviously hard to find). Otherwise, you will experience a really hard time finding the file you have created. So, be sure that you define a location and properly name the file if you intend to find it. Then, just press the save option you the exporting process will begin. The progress of the exporting will be displayed by the gray color progress bar.

When it comes to exporting, the process is pretty much the same. You will find an option called “create video from this scene” under the editor area. The dialog box will now open, and it is almost the same dialog you found when saving the scene.

However, it has one difference. Instead, of ‘Export Project’ this dialog box consists “Export Scene”. The rest of the steps are the same, so you can export the project without any hassle. Then, you will see that the file is saved in the defined location.

How did we rate Explaindio?

This section of our review article is dedicated to explaining the things we considered when rating Explaindio. In other words, here’s how we rated Explaindio.

Overall effectiveness: 8/10

As you may already know, Explaindio comes with various features, and they advertise some key features. It creates animated videos, lets you create different styles such as explainer, cartoon, and whiteboard. Also, it has the integration of 2D and 3D graphics and a library of some media assets. That is in addition to a large number of tools included. However, as we honestly believe, Explaindio fails to deliver everything they promise. Although there is a substantial number of tools, we are not impressed with the free assets provided in the library. This is a shortcoming particularly when it comes to audio and 3D assets. To solve this, the user either have to purchase the assets or use a third-party app to create them. That is why it gets a rating of 7 out of 10 for its effectiveness.

Pricing: 8/10

As we mentioned at the beginning of the review, Explaindio is a very affordable tool of its category. You can go through the prices of the packages we have mentioned above and compared them with competitors. If you go for a tool like Adobe Animate, you will have to pay more than $200. However, this program doesn’t offer you a trial version. That means you have to buy it to test it.

User convenience: 7/10

When it comes to the convenience of the user, Explaindio is not the most promising option. That means this software comes with a relatively complex interface. You will need at least a couple of days to figure out the features provided with it. Accessing features is not that easy. You will need a lot of practice to make the best use of this software. However, if you can practice it well, it can be really useful in the end.

Customer support: 8/10

Although they offer FAQ, they are accessible by the paid users only. You cannot necessarily read them before you purchase the software. Even if you purchase the software and access those FAQ, you will be slightly disappointed. That is because the questions are poorly organized, and it is pretty hard to sort them out. Besides, there are 28 videos as tutorials, and all of them are placed in a single page. Scrolling down this page and finding the most appropriate video is an uphill task, therefore. The task is made further difficult because of the ads included in the page. You cannot search for them even on YouTube.

They take very long to respond to the queries made by the customers. As we mentioned, they took really long to come up with a complex answer to the simple question asked.

Bonus tools you can get by purchasing Explaindio

If you have purchased Explaindio, however, you are eligible for a package of bonuses from us. You may email us the details of your purchase, so we will get back to you with the bonuses. These tools can be really useful in many instances.

Listed below are the bonuses you are eligible for.

This is a cool compositor software which is available for both Mac and Windows computers.

Screen Marker

This is a handy tool that lets you mark the areas of the screen. It lets you draw, highlight or annotate the screen.

SC Video Editor

This is a handy video editing tool that can be used to create various video clips. It comes with a very user-friendly interface.

Panorama Photo Stitcher for Windows

You can use this software to create beautiful and useful panoramas for various purposes. It can also be used to create overlapping photos.

2D Animation Studio

This is a small but powerful tool to create top-quality animations using vector and bitmap images. If you have this tool, you don’t have to take the trouble of creating frame-by-frame animation.

Easy Web Builder (Desktop App)

This tool is very handy for those who want to create attractive websites but new to the subject. It operates as a WYSIWYG tool. So, creating websites using this tool is a walk in the park for any person.

What are the alternatives to Explaindio?

Let’s take a look at some of the most notable alternatives to Explaindio.

VideoScribe

This is a very promising alternative to Explaindio no matter whether you use Mac or Windows PC. This is a great tool particularly if you need to create nice whiteboard videos. The price of this software is reasonable, and there is a large number of tools included in it.

Adobe Animate CC

This is another popular alternative among Mac and Windows PC users. This tool is recognized by professional animators in the industry as a standard. However, you will see that this tool is pretty difficult to handle if you are a novice. Nevertheless, if you expect precision and perfection with your videos, this is a go-to option. If you perform an internet search, you will be able to find plenty of tutorials on Adobe Animate CC.

RawShorts

Both of the previous alternatives were device-based (computer-based) software. However, RawShorts is web-based software that comes as a decent alternative that creates animations. It functions based on drag-and-drop principle. Also, it has a rich library of media assets. This tool is free to use as long as you don’t export the outcome. If you need to export what you have created, you will have to pay $20. That means each animation or movie costs $20 to get exported. We don’t believe this is the best option if you create animations frequently.

Doodly

If you’re looking for a tool that has nice integration with third-party images, Doodly is a good option. It is capable of creating wonderful whiteboard animations with high-quality. Compared to Explaindio, however, Doodly is very expensive software. So, we hardly recommend it for those who are on a tight budget. In addition to that, it offers plenty of free resources to build your video from scratch.

The bottom-line

Well, that’s all we have to explain about how it went with Explaindio software. All in all, Explaindio is a decent option to try for those who need to create professional whiteboard animations. It offers you a range of options. Despite the shortcomings (which we have mentioned), it is a recommendable, decent tool. Although it might take some time to master this software, we believe it is a good investment. More importantly, it is a very affordable option compared to other expensive software tools.
