iPhones are expensive gadgets to purchase, and when they break, you might find yourself looking to buy a new one.
Of course, this is incredibly expensive to do, and in a lot of cases, you will find that some simple fixes will work.
In this case, we’re referring to a broken iPhone touchscreen. Sure, it might seem completely broken at first. However, it’s best to fix the iPhone touch screen not working before you look at purchasing a new iPhone.
In this article, we will discuss some basic and more advanced fixes that will get your iPhone touchscreen working again, so let’s get right into it.
What Issues You May Experience After Updating to iOS 16
Before we take things a step further and look at the more advanced fixes, below are some of the problems you might experience with your iPhone after updating it to iOS 16.
- The touchscreen may not respond to swiping or tapping.
- Your iPhone may not be responsive to specific functions, e.g., if you are trying to answer a phone call, you won’t be able to answer.
- The touch screen may not work at all.
- Certain buttons may be unresponsive when pressed.
#1 – Checking Your Touch Screen
Now, there are a few basic things you can do that will check whether or not there is a problem with your touchscreen or whether the problem is elsewhere.
- Remove the case from your device and clean it with a lint-free cloth.
- Remove your screen protector, clean the screen with a lint-free cloth, and apply a new screen protector if the touchscreen works again.
- Let your iPhone battery die and recharge your device.
- Restart your iPhone (sometimes, this is all you need to do!)
If none of these basic fixes work, then don’t worry; you will likely find that one of the more advanced methods will get the job done.
#2 – Adjust Touch Screen 3D Settings (iPhone 6S and Newer)
Unless your touch screen is completely unresponsive, one of the first things that you should do to try and fix the iPhone touch screen not working is
#1 – Unlock your iPhone and launch the “Settings” application.
#2 – Swipe down and tap on the “General” option followed by “Accessibility.”
#3 – Tap on “3D Touch”. From here, slightly increase the “3D Touch Sensitivity” slider and see if your issue is fixed. If not, continue to increase the slider slightly to determine whether or not this is the fix for your problem.
3D Touch is a relatively new concept that has been implemented into iPhone 6S and newer models too, so if you have an older model, then this isn’t what you are looking for to fix the iPhone touch screen not working.
#3 – Hard Reset iPhone
The next thing that you should try is a hard reset. This is a fix that may not only fix your iPhone touch screen not working, but you will most likely find that your iPhone is slightly faster afterward, too.
#1 – While your iPhone is powered on, press and hold down the “Volume Down” button and the “Power” button.
Note: if your phone is earlier than the iPhone 6S model, you will need to hold down the “Home” button and the “Power” button instead.
#2 – After a few seconds, your iPhone will turn off, and the Apple logo will appear after about five more seconds. Once the Apple logo appears, release all the buttons you hold.
#3 – Your device will boot up, and after a few seconds, you will be able to determine whether or not your iPhone has been fixed.
Most minor issues with an iPhone will be fixed with a simple hard reset and while the iPhone touch screen not working is a major issue, you might find that this fixes it; however, if it doesn’t, move on to the next fix.
#4 – Reinstall iOS Firmware
While doing this might seem like an extreme approach, it might be your only option unless you opt to get a new iPhone. Completely reinstalling the iOS firmware on your iPhone will remove the existing firmware.
As a result, any software installed on your device that may have been interfering with your touchscreen will also be removed.
#1 – Start by downloading Tenorshare ReiBoot on your computer, installing it as instructed, and launching it to begin.
#2 – If your iPhone isn’t already connected, go ahead and connect it to your computer with a lightning cable.
#3 – From the program’s main menu, select “iOS System Repair.”
Note: we recommend that you use “Standard Repair” first, and if that yields unsuccessful results, then return to the program’s main menu and try using “Deep Repair” instead.
#4 – For this example, we will be using “Standard Repair.” After selecting it, you will be shown to enter either “DFU Mode” or “Recovery Mode.” The instructions on how to do so will be shown on display.
#5 – Once in either mode, you will be prompted to enter some information about your device into the program. Enter the iPhone model, firmware version, and the required information, and click on “Download.”
#6 – On the next display, you will be able to track the progress of your iOS fix, and after a few minutes, your iPhone should be fixed.
As we said previously, if using Standard mode doesn’t fix the problem you’re experiencing, try using Advanced mode instead.
Tenorshare ReiBoot is, without a doubt, the best program you can use to recover and fix your iOS system if there is a problem. Below are some of the main features that it has to offer.
- Deep Repair. We showed you how to use “Standard Repair” in the method above, but “Deep Repair” takes things a step further. Your device is completely scrubbed, removing the iOS system and all of your data, and the firmware is reinstalled.
- Exit Recovery Mode. When you enter “Recovery Mode,” some iOS features are limited or unusable, and exiting Recovery Mode can be difficult. ReiBoot allows you to simply connect your device and will exit the device from Recovery Mode easily.
We are confident that if none of the fixes so far have helped fix the iPhone touch screen not working, this fix will do the job.
ReiBoot is a fantastic program for fixing any iPhone or iOS issues you are experiencing, and while it’s a little more complicated, you’ll be thankful once your iPhone touch screen has been fixed.
#5 – Fixing iPhone Touch Screen Not Working with Factory Reset
Lastly, if nothing has helped you, your best bet is to factory reset your device. This is an unfortunate approach and will remove any data on your device, so make sure to back up your data before following the steps below.
#1 – Take your iPhone and unlock it. Tap on the “Settings” application, enter “General,” swipe to the bottom, and tap on “Reset.”
#2 – You will be shown all of the iPhone reset options you have access to. Tap on “Erase All Content and Settings.”
#3 – You will be prompted to enter your device’s passcode. Go ahead and do so.
#4 – Your device will now be reset, and after a few minutes, it will be completely wiped.
#5 – Follow the iOS setup steps, and afterward, discover whether your iPhone touch screen is not working problem has been fixed.
As long as you remember to take a backup of your iPhone’s data, then using this method won’t be a problem. If this method fixes the issue, the problem was with the iOS 11 firmware rather than the hardware. However, if this didn’t work, then the odds are that it’s a hardware problem.
Visit an Apple Store
Suppose absolutely none of the fixes that we have discussed in this article have helped you to fix your iPhone touch screen not working. In that case, you are experiencing a hardware issue, and there’s nothing that you can do without damaging the internal hardware of your device.
In a case like this, it’s a good idea to visit an Apple store and have a professional look at the device. They will either offer to have it sent away and fixed or may recommend that it’s time for you to get a new iPhone. With the iPhone 14 just around the corner, getting a new iPhone might be a good idea!
Throughout this article, we have shown you many fixes to the iPhone touch screen not working. If you experience a problem like this (or anything similar), you can fix it with as little frustration as possible.
If none of our fixes helped you out, then don’t worry. When you get in touch with an Apple store, you will be guided in the right direction and find out what to do next. Perhaps an iPhone 14 is just what you need!
