Weave Tools in Figma Design Will Join the Shared AI Credit Pool

At a glance

Figma increased add-on credit volume on August 25, while Weave tools in Figma Design remain free in beta. Measure usage and set limits before GA.

Figma made one AI-credit change on August 25, 2026 and announced another for the coming weeks. Existing add-on subscriptions and pay-as-you-go billing now provide more credits at the same cost: on Professional and 1.6× on Organization and Enterprise. Weave tools inside Figma Design and the agent in Figma Design remain free during open beta, then will draw from the shared Figma AI credit pool when they reach general availability.

Figma has not published a GA calendar date. Its AI credit updates FAQ, retrieved August 28, says “in a few weeks,” promises to update the article after a specific date exists, and says customers will receive notice before credit consumption begins.

The public help center also omits a pay-as-you-go unit price. Figma directs admins to the Add credits or Manage credits flow for current subscription tiers and the live PAYG rate. A forecast should use the account’s admin screen and invoice currency.

This article covers the curated Weave tools inside Figma Design. The standalone Figma Weave product at weave.figma.com is currently separate and already consumes its own Figma Weave AI credits. Figma’s Weave-tools guide documents that product boundary.

What changed on August 25

The update applied automatically to accounts with an ongoing AI-credit subscription or PAYG enabled. Figma says the cost stayed the same while the included volume increased. Subscription invoices may show a package adjustment so the higher credit quantity is reflected at the same net cost. PAYG monthly spending limits stayed unchanged, allowing more credit consumption before the same currency limit is reached.

Seat-credit allocations did not change. Figma’s How AI credits work page publishes these monthly amounts:

Plan and seat Monthly seat credits
Starter Full 500
Professional Full 3,000
Organization Full 3,500
Enterprise Full 4,250
Dev, Collab, and View on Starter, Professional, or Organization 500

The public table leaves the Enterprise cell for Dev, Collab, and View seats blank. Starter users and View seats also have a 150-credit daily limit. Seat credits belong to individuals, reset monthly, do not roll over, and cannot be shared or transferred.

Weave and the Design agent after GA

Figma says both features currently consume zero credits during open beta. After GA, they will draw from the same budget as other generally available AI tools, including Figma Make.

Weave tools will have a set credit cost per tool. The Design agent will vary with prompt complexity, actions, and context such as connected libraries or attached files. Figma plans to add those rates to its credit documentation when details are available.

That future usage enters the existing spend order documented in Manage AI credits:

  1. individual seat credits;
  2. shared subscription credits, when purchased;
  3. PAYG credits, when enabled.

Subscription credits reset each monthly usage period and do not roll over. Professional add-ons run month to month, including on an annually billed base plan. Organization and Enterprise add-ons align to the annual contract; downgrades and cancellations are available only during the 30-day renewal window. That reversibility difference makes usage evidence especially important for Organization and Enterprise buyers.

Step 1: export the beta-usage CSV

This export is available to Organization and Enterprise admins. Figma gives this path:

  1. Open the file browser and select Admin.
  2. Open AI credits and choose View.
  3. Hover over Credits used in beta not included.
  4. Select Download CSV.
  5. Retrieve the file from the email Figma sends when the export is ready.

The CSV has one row per user per metering period, with total free beta credits, credits by product, credit allowance, and billing group where applicable. Figma says beta calculations include the Design agent, Weave, code layers, and 3D transforms. Data begins in early July 2026 for Weave and mid-July for the other three. Figma labels the calculations as estimates that can change through optimization and GA.

Professional plans do not receive this beta CSV under the documented rule. Those teams can start with a manual workflow count and then measure actual credited usage in the first billed period.

Step 2: calculate a bounded GA forecast

Use complete metering periods after each feature’s documented data start. Confirm each metering period’s start, end, and day count, then normalize its usage to a 30-day run rate. Average comparable normalized periods and keep the by-product columns visible.

The Design product bucket combines the agent, Weave, code layers, and 3D transforms. Figma’s reporting does not provide a by-feature split, so that total is an upper bound for the two features announced for GA. Keep it as the conservative case until Figma publishes rates or finer reporting.

Next, add current billed AI usage from Make and other tools. Compare the result per heavy user against that person’s seat credits, then compare shared overflow against the existing subscription pool and PAYG limit. Apply the 2× or 1.6× update only to add-on and PAYG volume; seat allocations stayed fixed.

Use the current price shown in Admin to convert credits into currency. Third-party unit prices can have a different plan, date, or invoice currency and are excluded from this calculation.

Step 3: set GA purchase and limit controls

Choose the smallest add-on tier that covers observed repeat usage, then put a ceiling on variable spend. Figma documents three controls:

  • PAYG monthly spending limit: admins can enable, disable, or change it at any time. Changes take effect immediately. Already accrued usage still appears on the next invoice.
  • Individual paid-credit access: Set AI credit limits supports Full access, a custom monthly limit, or No access after seat credits are exhausted. The path is Admin → People → user → AI credits → Set limit, and bulk updates are available.
  • Subscription tier: upgrades apply immediately and are prorated. Professional downgrades apply on the next monthly billing date. Organization and Enterprise changes follow the annual renewal window.

Figma says every user starts with Full access to available paid credits. Set limits for casual users before GA and reserve Full access for people whose usage supports it. A request for more credits sends an admin notification and does not automatically change the limit.

Paid-credit limits govern paid usage after seat credits run out. They do not block free beta activity before GA. A team can set an immediate usage policy. Figma’s AI settings guide adds plan-specific technical controls: Enterprise organization admins can disable all AI at organization or workspace level; Professional and Organization accounts can enable AI when it remained disabled from beta, and that enablement becomes permanent. The published controls do not provide a separate switch for only the Design agent or only Weave tools in Figma Design.

The practical trigger is Figma’s promised pre-consumption notice. At that point, refresh the FAQ for the GA date and per-feature rates, export the newest CSV, confirm the live admin price, and lock the add-on tier, PAYG ceiling, and user limits before billing begins.
